Write a two paragraph summary of an idea for a high school level unit plan. Describe the topic you think it should address along with the subtopics that you feel are relevant for students to learn. Also describe some possible activities, labs, or projects that you hope will engage your students. Be prepared to present and advocate for your topic in class as a possible collaborative unit plan topic

Evolution is a topic that interests me as a subject for a unit plan. Evolution is one of the more important topics that gets to be explored in a Biology course. As a topic it ties into a lot of biological concepts. Furthermore there are a number of ways that it could be broken down into subtopics. Some subtopics for a unit plan on evolution could be the theories prior/lead to evolution, Darwinian evolution/natural selection, influences on evolution (mutation, gene flow, genetic drift, etc), history of Human evolution, Hardy-Weingberg principle and more.

The topic of evolution allows for a lot of different opportunities to learn. It allows for a historical insight into science with the exploration of Darwin and his studies. One could integrate technology as there are a number of games/models/online interactives that allow you to explore evolution (For example:

I recall a lab in which we tested natural selection as well as genetic drift and gene flow. The topic also deserves a look as it tends to have a lot of misconceptions; so within this unit we could clear up misconceptions on how humans are related to primates and so forth.
